Tom O’Mealia is a Vice President at the JPMorganChase Center for Geopolitics, advising senior JPMorganChase leaders, clients, and government stakeholders on European and transatlantic geopolitical dynamics as well as global geoeconomic issues. He also serves as editor of the Center for Geopolitics’ Window on the World newsletter.
Tom joined JPMorganChase from the U.S. Department of State, where he served as an Analyst in the Bureau of Intelligence and Research, covering Australia, New Zealand, and the Pacific. He also served in assignments as a Political Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Madrid and as a Country Director for the United Kingdom in the Office of the Secretary of Defense for Policy through the Presidential Management Fellowship.
Tom spent the first portion of his career in academia. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard University and completed his a PhD in Political Science from the University of Michigan. His academic research spanned international relations, comparative politics, and political economy and was based on extensive fieldwork in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
Tom holds a BA in Political Science and English, MA in Political Science, and a PhD in Political Science, all from the University of Michigan.
