Nathaniel Sher

Nathaniel Sher is Vice President of Asia Pacific Policy and Strategic Competitiveness at JPMorgan Chase. He covers geopolitics in Asia, U.S.-China relations, and issues critical to the firm’s global competitiveness, including trade and investment, industrial policy, export controls, supply chains, and technology.

Nathaniel joined the firm after serving as a senior research analyst at Carnegie China. His research has been published and cited in the New York Times, Foreign Affairs, Economist, and Washington Post, among other leading publications.

Nathaniel previously served in the Commercial Section of the U.S. Embassy in Beijing from 2019-2020 and as a Loan Officer at the U.S. Small Business Administration in 2020.

Nathaniel received an M.A. in international relations from the University of Chicago and an L.L.M. in Chinese Politics and Foreign Policy from Tsinghua University. He received a B.A. with honors from Oberlin College, where he studied as a John F. Oberlin scholar. Nathaniel is a member of the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations and proficient in Mandarin.
