Bernadette Dorsey - Head of USA Private Bank Client Onboarding
Could you tell me a little about your current role? My team provides operational support to banking teams across the nation, where clients seek to do business with J.P. Morgan and wish to open accounts that my team will facilitate, from completing a pre-filled application, to ensuring that the account is open and ready for funding. We aim to provide a differentiated client experience, each and every time!
What do you enjoy most about it? I love the proximity to our clients; there is nothing like knowing that there is an individual person on the other side of an account, counting on me and my team to deliver. I’m also a problem solver, so I really enjoy being involved in streamlining processes and last but not least, I enjoy the people I work with every day. I’m so proud of all that my team has accomplished, particularly on the heels of being in a global pandemic where we moved to a work from home model in lightning speed, and didn’t miss a beat in meeting the needs of our clients.
What’s the most important part of Black History Month to you? Taking time with colleagues to pause and be intentional about celebrating past and present members of the Black community who have made a significant contribution to society.
How will you be celebrating Black History Month with your colleagues? I’m looking forward to celebrating Black History Month by participating in the signature events that our Black Organization for Leadership Development (BOLD) business resource group has organized throughout the month. In particular, I’m excited about the Fireside Chat with Thasunda Brown Duckett, CEO Consumer Banking. As a Black female, I want to “look up” and see others who look like me and Thasunda (amongst other senior Black executives) is that person. She is the first Black person to sit on the firm’s Operating Committee and yes, representation matters. She is an absolute trailblazer and role model for so many, inside and outside of the firm, including myself.
Who is an inspirational Black historical figure who inspires you and why? My biggest inspiration in life was my mother, Barbara W. Dorsey, who passed away at the age of 53 (I was 21 years old) from a rare heart disease. She had the strongest work ethic of anyone I know, despite having limitations that she kept to herself - she always pushed forward and dedicated all she had to our family, our church, her sorority, and those she knew and loved. It was through her that I developed my life’s passion; To those whom much is given, much is required. She poured into me and gave me the momentum I need to work through any challenge that presents itself.
