Sharing Our Talent: What Impact Can It Make?
Aligning employee expertise with specific needs of nonprofits through our Virtual Service Corps program.
Running a nonprofit isn’t an easy task, and we’re always looking for unique ways that we can help our partners make a positive impact on communities in need. One new program leverages the professional skills and experience of our employees to help our nonprofit partners expand their impact. Through the Virtual Service Corps Program, we align our employees’ talents and experiences with the specific needs of these nonprofits through virtual, skills-based volunteer projects.

Recently, experts from the Chase digital team helped the PENCIL Fellows Program in New York. PENCIL trains and places talented students from underserved communities in summer internships to empower them with critical workplace experiences. Given that we have contributed greatly to summer youth employment programs at PENCIL and to organizations around the country, we offered the expertise of Chase’s Digital Channel Marketing Search team by stepping in to design PENCIL’s paid search campaign with the goal of driving additional traffic to the Fellows program’s host sites and increasing their participant and donor base.
Four employees volunteered their time during work hours to collaborate on a three month long project with PENCIL. These employees worked together to build the search campaign structure, run quality assurance tests, and create performance reports while providing onsite training to the nonprofit. “It was great getting to work with the very talented team who volunteered for this project. They kept me motivated and engaged in the project, and it was successful because of their dedication and effort,” said Heather Flourney, PENCIL’s project team lead. Once the campaign successfully launched, PENCIL saw an immediate increase in traffic on their website throughout the first week.
“We had a wonderful experience with our JPMorgan Chase volunteer team. They were able to help us create a project and train us on Google AdWorks, a platform that nobody in our organization had experience with,” said Julia Ostroff, development manager at PENCIL. “Their insight and clear communication helped us pick up many different facets of the platform, and best practices of using it to create a successful campaign.”
