Everyone Starts Somewhere:
Summer Youth Employment Program
Continuing our commitment to workforce readiness and helping underserved youth obtain the skills necessary to build lasting careers, we are investing $5 million over the next two years in nonprofit partners that will provide summer jobs and skill-building workshops in 14 U.S. cities for more than 4,000 teenagers and young adults. Our summer youth employment initiative also expects to offer learning opportunities in the fields of science, technology, engineering, arts and math for 20,000 13- to 24-year olds.
We are working with mayors, nonprofit organizations and other private sector employers in Chicago, Dallas, Detroit, Jacksonville, Jersey City, Los Angeles, Louisville, Miami, Milwaukee, New York City, Oakland, San Francisco, Seattle and St. Louis, to engage young people—particularly those at-risk and disadvantaged—during their summer break from school to train them with skills that will help build strong foundations for their future careers.
